(23) Islamic way of life

OUTLINE OF CHAPTER
Islamic faith: Five articles of Islamic faith, ever-true faith - the way of Abraham, faith inscribed in heart, no hardship pertains to Islam.
Islamic way of life: True piety and concept of God-consciousness, humbleness, moderation as a way of life, enjoy good things of life but do not waste, patience in adversity, rewards for self-surrender, education a sacred duty, scholars exempted from war, acquisition of knowledge and divine revelation, imparting religious knowledge to children.
The five pillars of Islam: the straight path guided by five pillars. (1) There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is his last prophet. (2) Prayer: Kabah as qiblah (direction of prayer), all true invocation due to God alone, invisible beings and men created to worship God, all creatures extol God’s glory, benefits of prayer (restraint from evil), act of prayer a good deed, why God does not answer some prayers? Humble yourself in prayers, extol God’s limitless glory at morn and evening, be constant in praying (good deeds drive away evil), five daily prayers, the noblest kind of prayer, prayers for forgiveness, obligatory congregational prayer on Friday, shortening of prayer during war and traveling, exemption from prayer (drunkenness, traveling, illness), call to prayer, ablution (wudu) or tayammum, how to pray. (3) Charity (see under economic regulations). (4) Fasting: Fasting during Ramadan, lunar calendar to observe fasting and Hajj, four sacred months. (5) Hajj: Ihram, prohibition of hunting, tawaf around Kabah, sai, Mecca to Mina, halting at Arafat, night at Muzdalifah, the day of sacrifice, tawaf al-ifada, tawaf al-wida, rites of pilgrimage and their symbolic meaning, offend not against the symbols set up by God, Kabah as God’s symbols for mankind.
