(15) Objections of pagan of Arabia
OUTLINE OF CHAPTER
Exclusivity of monotheism. Attacking the message: Quran is nothing but poetry, challenge to produce surah of equal merit, alter this discourse to our liking, monotheism not our ancestral tradition, Quran a plagiarized version of Bible, Quran imparted by unnamed foreigners, Quran product of evil spirits. Attacking the messenger: Accusing prophet of delusions, Muhammad composed the Quran and falsely attributed to God, it is not conceivable that a prophet should deceive, Muhammad only a mortal man, message in its own people’s tongue, why Quran not bestowed on person of eminence? Muhammad a man bewitched/mad poet, sorcerer with spellbinding eloquence, time would prove Muhammad’s teaching to be false, entrap you in contradictions.
Demand for miracles: Quranic response to the demand to perform miracles, miracles are exercise in futility, you are only a warner, demand to see angels, appearance of angels on the day of judgment, appearance of angel will only cause confusion, freedom of choice and miracles, denial of any claim to supernatural powers, miracles are in the power of God alone, consider this message on its merits (rather than miracles), prophets of old were not superhuman, prophets performed miracles only by God’s leave, denial of any claim of supernatural powers.
Demanding chastisement: Ignore those who demand chastisement, why hasten coming of evil? No chastisement while prophet in the midst, do they really wish our chastisement be hastened?
